I recently joined a new company called stripe, and I read few of the stripe press books like Increment.
I read the remote increment issue, which was mostly fluff, but some useful studies and requirements that tells what it needs to be successful as remote employee and company, mostly how to manage time, async communication and high agency.
Other small book that I read was called how to get things done, this book is for peeople looking for practical advice and generate a sense of urgency and make you an employee with more agency. It tells about someone with ADHD, can concentrate on work and be productive. The best advice was visualizing how the task will look once completed and maintaing the RNL list to stop you from being distracted.
The other book that I am currently reading is called the linux kernel book, one nice technique that I found in the box was how was linked list was implemented in the linux kernel and how offset_of was used to implement generic data structure in c, I am still reading this book so more reviews can be poninted out later.
Other than that on the personal side, I explored lots of things related to the payments industry and now I have lots of reading to be done.
I am just thinking how will I be managing my time now, it just seems so difficult, to improve that I have started reading some manager related books like the manager’s path and the staff engineer’s path. Hoping that it provides me with some insight.
I am dealing with learning new company specific business, their tech and trying to juggle being full time remote employee now;
The things to learn are:
- The payment ecosystem
- Ruby - I always prided myself to be a language expert and I feel the need to be the best at this thing here, I should play with my strength.
- React - Its been some time I worked on fronetend, I need to become better at it.
- And also work on things related to office without being hung upon the things that needs to be learnt. - Need it for higher agency and deliver things on time.
- Learning time management and breaking down of tasks.
